I just remembered that starting with Mayor Marion Barry that the plan was to use a old CSX branch line. They spent like 40 million dollers on this project which included buying a Czech Deisel Streetcar which sat in a city barn and is now in parts unknown. Grade crossings where redone but after a while the city repurposed the money to be used on other projects which a good portion came from the Federal Transit Adminstration.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anacostia_Line after reading the Wikipedia Article on this this was a boondogle public works disaster from start to finsih with cuts and kickbacks and politics. Yes I favor public rail transit but this was a uneeded project that was a gift of to a corrupt political machine.

Yes I need 2 posts on this as this is a regional rail issue as this is a former CSX freight branch line reused for transit in the DC/MD area. One post is a transit fan post and the other is a rail history post so one type of railfan might not need to read the other post or populate the other forum

and despite like 50 million and buying 3 Czech Streetcars it was never finished. Any idea where the cars are ? Any hope for progress on this in my lifetime?
I suppose its not impossible that the cars remain inside the well-maintained car barn built for this project:

I'm still amazed that DC couldn't use that abandoned csx tracks, as the land under was owned by ... DC.

The 3 Czech Streetcars were eventually shipped to the United States via the Port of Baltimore. They were stored at WMATA Greenbelt Yard until the construction of H Street streetcar line was completed. One of them was put on public display on the former site of the DC Convention Center for a couple of weeks prior to the completion H Street streetcar line. They were used to provide service on the H Street streetcar line when it opened for service.
