Other then the Northeast corridor where can I take a day trip on Amtrak?

I always looked out for the pilings in the water at Port Costa and tried to imagine it as it was before the bridge was built, and have sometimes wondered how many Overland Route passengers from the East knew that their coach or sleeper was going to be on a ferry before they got to Oakland.
