These days it is very unusual to see a railroad with track with weeds growing up around them that has not been scrapped or railtrailed---but there is miles and miles of abandoned rails around here with tracks still in place..some even have industry sidings with old railroad cars on them. Who owns these " Zombie" railroads and why is nothing being done about them here in NH?

The state of NH owns both RoWs to the Vernont state line. The state has tried to fund a trail between Littleton and Whitefield for years and has finally gotten funding to expand said trail to Wing Road, where the existing track is OOS, not formally abandoned.

The Mountain Division between Whitefield and Dalton is not abandoned either. The state has put out a couple RFPs, seeking shippers/operators to operate/refurbish the OOS portions. Nobody has bitten.

Track that was next to Feed Store and Little Grill that was there in spring in Littleton NH 2022 is now gone and in fall Nov 2022. State of NH DOT has no rail division unlike other states and has no rail plan . Last freight study was in year 2000

All three of these statements are false.

The tracks between Industrial Park Road and Brook Road were pulled in the fall of 2020, they definitely weren't there this spring.... there is a small section that was left next to the restaurant that is still there.

The NH rail division can be found here:

You can also find the rail plan from 2012, not 2000, at that link.
