Old Rocky Point Depot

Looks like the old rocky point depot formally Thurber lumber office has been demolished. It was in decent condition I thought. Anyone know why it was removed? The other buildings on the property are in much worse condition and were left standing.

MOVED OFF ROW SOUTH OF TRACKS, AND SLIGHTLY EAST OF ORIGINAL LOCATION FOR USE AS PART OF THURBER LUMBER CO. COVERED PLATFORMS ENCLOSED TO CREATE ROOMS. STILL STANDING: 2006 Research: Dave Keller

Wow, was this recently in 2019 as Google images 2019 still shows it in place, see below.


Recently received:

View NE - September, 1976 (Dave Keller photo and archive)

The depot was moved c.1940 a short distance south of the tracks and slightly east of the original location, 200'. PER G.O. #1006C: 3/29/39 AND BRANCH ABANDONED. It was used by Thurber Lumber Co.

A new replica station has been built on site in Rocky Point as I mentioned before on another Rocky Point Station topic, and it looks pretty nice!

Only problem is, it's facing the wrong way. It should be E-W. But it's been built N-S

Any completion date?

I'll try to get more photos when I go back into town soon. I believe that the station is almost 100% complete. Last time I saw it, it had gotten a coat of new paint in a darker shade of brown and acquired a vintage LIRR station sign painted in dark brown (burgundy?) with gold lettering and trim.
