Hello,
On this cold night, the SLQ eastbound 394 arrived in Island Pond at 1944 with the following:

RM-1 803
GP40-3 3803
QG GP40-2L 3014
23 tank cars
3 covered hoppers
4 centerbeam flats
10 boxcars

That's 40 cars total, including 38 loads and 2 empties.

I am hoping to catch tomorrow morning's 393 out of the Pond, but, in case I don't, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all around!

Hello,
Despite the chilly morning (-8oF), I did catch this morning's SLQ westbound 393 departing Island Pond at 0738 with the following:

GP40-3 3804
RM-1 804
GP40-2 3007
1 bulkhead flat
10 centerbeam flats
16 boxcars
21 tank cars

That's 48 cars total, including 5 loads and 43 empties.
Happy Holidays!

Shot from the early days of SLR of a crew with 58, 68 and a spreader playing in the snow at Danville Jct in
January 1997. Happy Holidays!

Greg,
Great photo! I still like that "bumblebee" paint scheme. Is that the same spreader now stored on the NHCR in North Stratford?

Only a relatively mild evening, last night's SLQ eastbound 394 arrived in Island Pond at 2047 with the following:

GP40 3004
RM-1 803
GP40-3 3803
4 centerbeam flats
11 tank cars
22 boxcars

That's 37 cars total, all loads.

It sounds like trains won't run Friday night due to the New Years Holiday, and crews are very short-staffed due to the out-of-control covid pandemic in Quebec.
Best,
Fritz

Hi Fritz, I'm not sure about the id of the spreader at North Stratford. The spreader in the photo I posted
had a CN noodle on it but none of the shots I took showed the number. I've got some other shots at
South Paris a year later that appear to be the same spreader but with SLR and an unidentifiable number.
Another shot from April 2007 at Lewiston Jct show what appears to be a different machine ( the front
plow is different and larger ) in rusty red primer lettered SLRX 23. I don't think I've seen it since. The GT
had a larger, much more modern machine with a full width cab at the front end which I think the CN
decided to keep.

Hello,
As their first move of the new year, SLQ ran a Richmond-Island Pond turn yesterday (Sunday, January 2nd) with the following:

QRY SD40U 6904
GP40 3004
RM-1 803
GP40-3 3803
34 tank cars
13 centerbeam flats
1 bulkhead flat

That's 48 loads total.

After tying (tieing?) down the train on the siding, they then returned to Richmond light engines.
Have a great week,
Fritz

The first run of 513 for 2022 was a bit over-powered with 3804-804-3047 pulling a train of
nine cars, shown here westbound approaching South Paris at Oxford St. Happy new year!

Hello,
Last night's SLQ eastbound 394 arrived in Island Pond at 2105 with the following:

GP40-2 3007
RM-1 806
GP40-3 3806
3 centerbeam flats
1 bulkhead flat
13 boxcars
18 tank cars

That's 35 cars total, all loads.

Apparently, covid is running rampant through the Richmond terminal and there are many cars waiting to move east.
Have a great weekend,
Fritz

RM-1 804

Hello,
Before the cold wind arrives, tonight's SLQ eastbound 394 arrived in Island Pond at 1718 with the following:

GP40-3 3805
RM-1 805
RM-1 803
GP40-3 3803
QG SD40U 6904
9 centerbeam flats
8 boxcars
12 tank cars
35 covered hoppers

That's 64 cars total, all loads. After spotting the loads at RCP, it looked like they were going to pull some tank cars that had been brought down earlier in the week by a Richmond-Island Pond Turn.
Have a great weekend,
Fritz

Saw 512 working today at Lewiston Jct... didn't know anything down here ran on Sunday but I figured it was LPG switching related (perhaps as needed). I know a few Sunday Richmond yard pulls have gone only as far as Island Pond this season but I was fantasizing of the idling 393 power, likely due to the cold, suddenly coming to life and heading west. By the way tomorrow's leader is 3403.
