The boxes on United are good and the portions dictated by what fits in a galley cart made to fit the aisle. I'm sure portions and variety could easily be altered for a train galley where space might not be as much of a concern.

On board meals go back to the Metroliner "Metroclub" first class. Those were similar to TV dinners of their time.

The Crescent. Both ways.

Carolinian is a day train from NYC and has a cafe car. Piedmont is more of a commuter train and has... "on board vending and drink machines" per the 2018 timetables.

Meanwhile, if you look at the schedule, the train starts in NYC at 2:15P and New Orleans (NOL) at 7am. When it hits Charlotte, NC (CLT), it's 2:20a southbound and 1:21a Northbound.

I can see Birmingham and Charolette being a pairing, as is DC and Charolette.

Funny how I remember when United got their 777-300's (apparently sunning themselves in the desert until the engine problem is solved and overseas business picks up. Meantime 787-800 "Nightmareliners" suffice) and that their Coach seating was going to be 3-4-3, or one additional seat from the 222's, I asked my FA friend what were they going to do with the carts? (she has 38yrs but likes working "International" Coach).

"They're just going to have to buy new ones" sayeth she.

I noticed the postings in Charlotte and New Orleans also. However I noticed how in one of them it states Charlotte, WA and Charlotte, IL. I wonder if someone in HR made a booboo and these are really Chicago and Seattle based positions which would make more sense. Even if management does plan some type of expansion of the traditional dining approach to some flex routes - I cannot imagine they'd do it now while they are trying to beef up crew bases so they can merely maintain the status quo. Further I can't imagine that the Crescent would be the first route they would choose to do this on. If these postings were instead in New York and Miami I'd believe it a little more.

If you had read the whole postings for both Chef and food handling specialist you would have seen the following in the interior of the listings.

Requisition ID:76915
Posting Location(s):North Carolina
Job Family/Function:Customer Service
Relocation Offered:No
Travel Requirements:None

I pulled the two positions up. I'm going to assume that whoever put it in over in HR fubar'ed the entry.

Chef is out of CLT.
Food Handling Specialist is out of Louisiana, probably NOL.

The question I have is, are there kitchen staff swappage between the two points? I can't see having a chef/assistant be there all day... but then diner hours are weird.

There is a cafe attendant position out of Charlotte ,NC. Works part way to NYP,then turns back on the northbound service. maybe upgrading it to Chef , means they can cover the crescent as well , as a standby.

Since the Crescent gets into CLT at an obscene hour of the morning, perhaps they don't need someone all the time. Perhaps they return to NOL from ATL or Birmingham? I guess one would need to apply to find out more. "No travel required" is interesting, I guess if your job is on board a moving transport vehicle, it's considered your "office"?
