Doesn't matter what service it's in, any significant asset like a locomotive is going to be insured.

The 902 was out of service since 2007 when the electrical cabinet caught fire during testing at BET.

Bad things happen to metal when you effectively stick a firehouse down a locomotive stack ;)

Governments generally self-insure, and buy insurance for catastrophic events like a school burning down, or when they are forced into the state health insurance pool. They should have a general fire insurance policy but it should have a high deductible. It's not ethical for government workers / contractors to commit arson of public property; perhaps they were frustrated about repeatedly working on the same "lemon" but a 50 y.o. locomotive should be straightforward to fix.

The 1025 must still be at Erie since its doesn't show on a trace by a friend of mine. It has not passed the Fairport railcam.
The 1064 may be in Middleboro by now, but I don't know for certain.

1064 was exchanged over to mass coastal this morning
1025 is billed to head east from Erie but knowing CSX they won't pick it up until WABTEC calls csx about why the engine is still there on the interchange track
1029 & 1067 are heading west out of Selkirk this morning on Q363

The MBTA/Mass Dot has a facility in Rochester that does warranty work and acceptance testing for T equipment. It's railfan nickname is "Area 52" (Kind of a joke in reference to the US government facility in Nevada known as Area 51). Once released from Rochester, it'll go to Readville.

You know when you guys mentioned to me about the next F40s to be rebuilt are they doing the remaining 16 for the 3rd batch or will they split it into two pieces and do a 4th batch?

1025 is set to return as its already billed to head back and waiting CSX pickup. 1051 should return either with it or after it depending on how things go in the near future.

1029 & 1067 have been received in Erie, and furthermore have been excepted into the shops at WABTEC they are doing basic deconstruction now. Removing fasteners, wiring, and draining fluids ect.
