Once 780 gets accepted, the rebuild program will be officially over.

780 Left East Deerfield this morning on what I think would be ED-8.

Update at 11:00. MBTX 780 has made it to Ayer. From here will will either go right to Boston by being picked by the Keolis work extra or Pan Am will take it to Lawrence and then down to Yard 21 for interchange.

MBTA 780 is in Lawrence. I have never seen Pan Am be this efficient....

780 delivered today at BET by BO-1.

That's all, folks!

So the 900’s don’t need to be rebuilt then? I would think they would want all of the bi levels to have the electronic signs and automatic doors that opens by a conductor pushing a button.

Electric door openers & electronic signs seem like minor fixes that could be accomplished locally without heavy equipment. What are we talking, removing some interior panels & fishing wires? Installing electric door motors?

No, the 900s need a full mid-life, this is just the end of the original order. MBTA had it in the FY21 CIP, and it's showing in the FY22 CIP under "overhaul of 33 Kawasaki coaches" on page 91 of appendix A for a total of $66M plus, with the first expenditures set for this FY.

$2M per coach for an overhaul seems like a high cost. Does that come with new trucks?
  by Trinnau

Pretty sure the trucks are fully rebuilt as well - not new. Don't forget these capital numbers include the cost of administration on the T's side, consultants, contingency, return-to-service testing and likely consider factors such as cost escalations over the course of a multi-year project.

Alstom's 2012 award was $114 for 74 coaches, or $1.5M per coach. This is still listed in the FY22 CIP with a total program cost of $130M, or $1.75M per coach.

When you consider its now 10 years later and things simply cost more, an overall program cost of $2M per coach seems in line with the previous contract.

I know its been a while but does anyone know why the kawasaki coaches numbered 900-932 were left out of the overhaul? Hate seeing them on the fitchburg line.

The 900s are significantly newer and were not of age to be rebuilt at the time the last 700s were contracted out. They will be the next for a midlife rebuild.

Ohhh that makes more sense. I take it that once they reach 20-25 years of age in 2025 (as did the 700s in 2014) they will begin to be rebuilt.
