All railroads are East/West Railroads. If it the train ends further East then it started its East bound. If it travels East but finishes further West then started is a West Bound. Been like that since beginning of named trains.

The Southern Sec, Garden State Sec, Northern Branch and River Line, just to name a few are Timetabled North/South.

For anyone interested, the Hi-rail truck that inspects the tracks was just spotted at Collingswood Auction headed south to Lakewood.

CNJ Southern Division was an EAST-WEST railroad. Same for the NY&LB.

Compass direction does not necessarily equate to RR direction.

Did Extech get its car this time?

Missed the Sunday return but was worth it. The FA-18 Navy jet was on display and took off from Allaire Airport around the same time. Huge turnout to see it.

The major railroads in this area were east-west oriented. Anything going to New York City / North Jersey (Hudson River originally) were going eastbound. Anything going away from NYC were westbound, no matter which compass direction they were actually going. Ended confusion (mostly). For instance, NJT trains going to the Coast Line travel from NY Penn west, then southwest, then south, then southeast, east, and finally south are timetable "westbound".

&GSC Yes. Extechs car was successfully delivered. Their tracks were also slightly cleaned up and they had ties installed near the switch for their spur. Not much, but it helped somewhat.

Extech typically doesn’t fix their track unless they have to. The repairs and their recent delivery suggests that they may stick around for now. This isn’t the first time that Extech went without service. Prior to the pandemic there was a one and half year period where they didn’t get a single car, only to return later and stop getting service again just before the pandemic I believe.

A few views of our favorite train from the past couple of months, although not always with a regular crew on a regular day. Things are different now than they were years ago, schedule-wise, but to see a train on this 160 year-old line is still pretty cool....

A rare down & back Saturday move in one day, as SA-93....

A northbound daylight run on a Friday Afternoon as PR-19....

And the regular SA-31 on Friday, a day late due to PTC issues on NJ Transit the day before....

True -- essentially the timetable direction is whatever the Operating Department says it is in the employee timetable. In Philadelphia, the direction from 30th St. Lower Level is northward to the Zoo complex, (then eastward from there to Boston), from Lower Level southward (!) on SEPTA to Zoo, (then westward on Amtrak to Harrisburg), and on the CSX High Line overhead it's eastward towards North Jersey, I'm pretty sure. On the SP the direction from Oakland to everywhere was eastward, whether to Portland or Los Angeles; today it's eastward on Caltrain from San Francisco to Santa Clara, southward on UP to Moorpark, and eastward again on Metrolink to LA.

Yeah, Pretty much anything between Washington and Boston is considdeered East - West. Some of the short lines (like RBMN} might be North - South.
Everthing in South Jersey is East of PHilly. Everthing N, W, SW,NW & S of NYC is West. The Southern's trains run East to Essay, Then West for the rest of the trip to Lakewood.

@NJTMonmouth they were supposed to take the 6228 out, but I’m not complaining. I like that engine :)

They should pick up Extechs car today. Did they have a tank for Bel Ray?
