The WP has a story today about the life of Robert S. O’Neil, a civil engineer who became president of Parsons Transportation Group, one of the main contractors building the Metro system. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/ro ... d=hp_local
De Leuw, Cather & Company was the primary consulting engineering firm for the Metrorail system. Much of the basic engineering had been done before Parsons acquired De Leuw, Cather in 1977. De Leuw, Cather & Company was the companion consulting engineering firm to the primary consulting architectural firm of Harry Weese & Associates. Both enterprises were responsible establishing the basic designs. The engineering and architecture for individual segments and stations contracts was done by others based on the templates established by De Leuw, Cather and Harry Weese . If you look around the system you will find the finger prints of the various individual engineering and architectural firms. The two most obvious ones are the mezzanine to platform elevators in the McPherson Square and L'Enfant Plaza stations.
