Does anyone know the details of the operation in the NO shop? Appears to be a passenger car rebuild outfit. Some of the ex New York Central cars used to be at the end of the industrial spur which ran from the north end of the yard, now removed.

Thanks for any info.....

Before the construction of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 1954, didn't the KCS have their own station which their passenger (and to bring up the other post before mine's question) and/or freight trains terminated at? If so, does anyone have any information and/or pictures on these locations?

NOUPT has it's own Loco and running repair car shop, both are Amtrak's now.
Most of Amtrak's car shops handle PVT car inspections to a point

Thank you for that information on NOUPT.

Does anyone have any information and/or images of the terminal which the KCS used prior to 1954, which is before NOUPT was constructed?

L&A (KCS) station was right next to the IC station where the current Union Station sits. L&N and Espee stations were down on the river and the Southern (and GM&N) station was in midtown.

Thank you very much for this information! Very interesting to see how a Class I railroad had a station in its terminus city with only two tracks.

Before the association with KCS and the inauguration of the Southern Belle, the Louisiana and Arkansas had only one train per day in to NO. Prior to 1932 this was an all day local to Shreveport which left at 6AM and arrived at 830PM. After 1932 the L&A ran an overnight train called the "Hustler" with sleeping cars, still only one train per day. Not much call for more than two tracks with only one train a day terminating at the Rampart Street station. The track from the KCS yard, former passenger main, over to NOUPT trackage has been lifted and now West yard is a dead end with a connection mid yard to the New Orleans Public Belt..
