Anyone know the date of this Transit Improvement Association fan trip ?

BM: Good pictures of the Transit Improvement Association (the sign on the first RDC)
Fan Trip.

The first picture is Ronkonkoma as mentioned looking from the south side of the track
with the station building behind the train.

The other two are at Greenport - I was surprised to see all of those "ping pongs"
sitting out on the dock and that it was used to lay up equipment. The photo from
the North Ferry going to or from Shelter Island was an interesting scene.

I remember that the RMLI Library Archive has ephemera from past LIRR fan trips
in their collection.
This would be something to look up for reference when RMLI re-opens.
RMLI is closed currently until further notice to members such as myself...

Those "pings' stored on the dock. That's a lot of coaches for 1958 as compared to today.

I am getting feedback that: "...The Transit Improvement Association (TIA) was formed in 1967. ..." Do we have RDC trip dates in error?

The year of 1967 must be in error. Maybe it's 1947.

If I remember correctly, there was a NYC subway R-11 fan trip held by the T.I.A. in 1949.

If I remember correctly, there was a NYC subway R-11 fan trip held by the T.I.A. in 1949.

I believe that the original 1958 date is correct taking note to these observations:

In the Ronkonkoma Station picture there looks to be a F-M C Liner in the background.
They were not yet on the LIRR in 1947 (built 1951?) and gone by 1967.

Dashing Dan is in evidence on the pictured equipment - not yet in use in 1947.
1967 could make some sense - depending on exactly when the RDCs were retired.

Again the best way would be to check the RMLI ephemera file of past fan trips.
We then could answer our questions...MACTRAXX

1958.

The pings on the pier were part of the job which started in Greenport and operated Trains 205 and 214 according to the employees timetable of the era. Greenport was still considered a "home terminal" at that time.

Oyster Bay freight house was demolished after railway Express quit in 1960.
