The Edmonton Transit System (ETS) :: City of Edmonton will soon get a light-rail extension, Metro Line (North LRT to NAIT) :: City of Edmonton, to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. It was originally expected to open earlier this year, but integrating the line's signaling has been difficult, and it's now expected to open by the end of this year. It joins the existing line at Churchill station, and travels in it southward to Health Sciences / Jubilee station.
This extension, the Metro Line, will add a branch to the existing single-line system, though one that has been extended over the years. That line, the Capital Line, currently runs between Century Park in the south and Clareview in the northeast.
They are planning several more extensions:

- NAIT northward and westward to Campbell Rd.
- A new line, the Valley Line, between Mill Woods in the southeast, the existing line at Churchill, and Lewis Farms in the west
