A Train Derails at 125th Street

NEW YORK - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says an investigation is under way after an A train derailed near the 125th Street station this morning.

It happened around 10:15 a.m.

Subway riders on social media say they were evacuated from the train after it came to a grinding halt.

Great to read that no one was seriously hurt. I hope everyone injured gets well soon.
It'll be interesting to learn why the emergency brake application occurred upon the release of any report.
Is the NTSB investigating this derailment?

Read thru 6 pages on this wreck at NYC transit Forum,a few cars have sideswipe damage,3rd rail damage,1 or 2 switches damaged,a few signals
were taken out during the wreck. Unknown cause of why/how the set went into emergency brake mode.
No word if the NTSB was called. Good news was only 3 major injuries,plenty of minor injuries.
Will pass on the R-46 and "locked door" comments.
There's been word of an "improperly" stored piece of rail may have been part of the problem*.

Was the train involved an R-46 or R-68? Most or all of the news coverage I saw showed R-68's Not much difference. Both are 75 ft. cars with locked-end doors, right?

The "A" seems to get R-46's as the norm,that's was in the NYC transit forum thread.
From a NY Daily news article,2 track supervisors suspended without pay,reportedly for "improperly" storing a piece
of rail at the derailment site,after work was done on last Monday.

It was 46s...there's literally ONE set of 68s that runs around on the A during PM rush.
