Apparently a late night derailment occurred on Freight Main in Shelburne Falls/Buckland. Unsure of status, ie cars off, track related damage, cause etc, but will post as news develop.

at least two cars are off of what i am assuming is west end of east bound grain train on siding/north track/ 2 by CP 398. potential significant track damage including two road crossings and one turnout from dragging car wheels for at least 1/2 mile west of where cars are on ground. tipped cars are also blocking south/main 1 track.

Article in today (or yesterday) The Recorder of Greenfield, MA: "Buckland derailment may change notification steps"

Looks like in retrospect Pan Am's decision to raise the gates after the derailed train cleared the Elm St crossing wasn't the best idea...

But the idea of calling MEMA every time a train goes into "emergency" and must be stopped for a walked inspection sounds unworkable.

But there is a very nice photo of state Rep. Stephen Kulik!
