Looks as if they scraped the zero off from last years sign and just added a "1" to me!!

The "1" as well as the "5" in 2005 look like they were painted in.

Am I the only one confused by that sign? If you look at that sign quickly, one would think that it's the 171st anniversary of the Cannon Ball. But the date 1834 was the year the LIRR was formed. So what does the sign actually refer to? I've looked through some of my stuff to see if I could find a date the Cannon Ball first ran but I can't find any definitive answer. Anyone have an answer? This might be a good one for Mr. Keller to sink his teeth into.

the 171 and the 1834 are to reprosent the LIRR's 171 years of service to LI.

the Cannonball icon is to reprosent the train it's self.

ok joe... i saw you at PD with the tripod... i was there with two kids...my shots werent the greatest, i shot from the north side.

The LIRR History division is innaccurate. If you go to Arrt's Arrchives, a LIRR history & photo website, he highlights a few instatnces in recent publications where some details are misstated in LIRR advertisements.
