I've tried Googling this, but end up mostly with results about Woolwich in the UK. I don't know if it was pre-1983, which this section of the forum is about, but I'm pretty sure it was before the line was sold to Maine DOT. I think the location was somewhere around 43.957946° N, 69.746244° W. When I saw it, there was still a hatch from a covered hopper and maybe some other car parts over the embankment on the north side of the track.
As I understand it, snowmobiles riding "in the gauge" had packed down slushy snow, which froze, causing the derailment. Somehow I think it was a westbound train (loaded cement cars), but maybe I'm wrong on that.
Would anyone have more info, such as the date it happened? (Even just the year might help narrow it down.)
Thanks.
