In the past I've noted that I believe that Frye to Lowell Junction in Andover, MA is the busiest section of single track in New England. But I want to see if we can actually confirm that here, and possibly come up with some close runner-ups.

A typical weekday, Frye to Lowell Jct:

- 27 MBTA passenger trips (200-226)
- 10 Amtrak passenger trips (680-689)
- 6 road jobs (SEPO/POSE, EDPO/POED, BODO/DOBO)
- 4 local jobs (LA-2, LA-3/LA-5)
- 2 MBTA deadhead moves (3701, 3702)

For a grand total of 49 movements, not including extras or unusual moves.

Now, I know that Northey Point to McNall has 62 movements per day, all MBTA passenger trips on the Rockburyport Line. However, I'm giving more weight to freights than passengers here. I'm not sure if there's an agreeable way to quantify that weight somehow.

You'd be correct. Nothing else is remotely close, including B&A single iron through Beacon Park which was spared all those years of any freight co-mingling because of the yard.

As far as number of trains goes, I think the single track segments north of Braintree on the Old Colony might win... 72 per weekday, and on summer Fridays, 74. Oh, and Fore River occasionally pokes in off the Greenbush Line wye a short distance, too.
