How much diesel fuel does the LIRR go through in the span of a week or month etc. Does anybody have facts or figures on this information? Where are all the fueling facilities?

seeing what they got for locomotives heres a guess as to what each model holds.

type #units owned
SW1001 5 Avrage tank holds 1000-2000 U.S. Gal.
FL9AC 3 My guess is that the avrage tank holds about 3000 gal.?
25 Tonner 3 my guess would be that the avrage tank holds about 500-800 gal. of fuel?

Are these electric or diesal never seen these models befor?

First off, The LIRR no longer owns FL9AC locos. They were leased from Metro North and returned upon the arrival of the DM/DE30AC locomotives from EMD.

The # of M1 units is now somewhere in the 300's. The M7 fleet has replaced more then half of the M1's.

Last I heard, the LIRR locomotives get somewhere around 1/2 mile to the gallon. So, if you figure out how many miles the average loco travels in a week, and how much capacity they have, you can figure out total consumption systemwide.

Are there posted figures of the average Fuel Economy (not sure what it is for trains MPG or GPM) for our Dual modes or Straight Diesels?

By the way SRS I believe the DM stands for Dual Mode and DE for Diesel Electric. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks
