Newsday Article: $1.7 million to fix Hempstead M-7s

Article states it will cost the MTA 1.7 mil to repair the sideswipe damage from October incident.
Correction is that it is 2 cars to be repaired, not 4. We just PIed 7117/7280 this morning, in fact. Damage is only to 7118 and 7279.

That's the corker. A whole new M-7 car costs somewhere around the $2 million mark.

M7's cost on average $2million per unit, so that makes $4million per married pair? and how many M7s is the LIRR getting. all i can say is that thats a shit load of tax payers money.

A married pair is a single unit. An A or B end of an M7 is useless on it's own.

well, there you go, the news is always incorrect in what they report, and they always manage to mis-inform the public. It IS only two cars that were affected. That is why we have only one pair of mismatched M-7's out there. The other pair would be the damaged cars. I still am not so sure that the cost that was reported would be accurate, but then again I'm not sure how severe the damage was.
