ConnDOT controls the M-8's they own,it will be their call,NOT MN's.

Before the new M8s were brought down by PMMO a 4 car "test" train ran to GCT: http://youtu.be/s6dZBuRs5To" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And here's the PMMO move: http://youtu.be/AhMA4wghS-k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks. So if SLE aren't getting M8 then it was because ConnDOT says they won't. Would there be any point with specifying a future M8 order to be 12.5kV, 3rd Rail and no ACSES - basically a new M6, with those sent to operate in MN territory allowing 25kV units to be sent to the Shoreline? Or are there too few cost savings in that to justify a subfleet?

no so lets stop speculating, SLE ordered the M-8 with possibility to be used on shore line, they never promised that they will.
next order will probably be M10's but still years away.

add to that that ACSES will be required on all MN lines by 2015.

Spotted 9600 - 9601 on a train parked in the Stamford upper yard yesterday. (Also M-3A 8006 and mate parked in the lower yard outside the body shop.)

More M8s In Service (effective May 11, 2014)
We are operating more M8s than old equipment (M2/M4/M6) on the New Haven Line. Customers have the opportunity to ride one or more of the 1190 M8 weekly trains (195 on Mondays-Friday, 109 on Saturdays and 107 on Sundays).

The new M8 trains represent 87% of total weekday New Haven Main Line service (Monday-Friday), 92% of Saturday service and 90% of Sunday service.

1. MNRR goes to Waterbury? Sorry couldn't help it.

2. The Waterbury train has flapping tarps? :wink:

I thought for sure they'd be running on SLE, but with the complete replacement of the fleet, I guess that's a no. CTDOT has plenty of diesel equipment for SLE and soon NHHS.

They'll certainly need to add to the fleet if they expect to go to Penn c.2020.

Sure, goes with the spitballs and duct tape holding the branch together in general!

You forgot the chewing gum. Long-term it's possible; Most if not all of the option cars after the first 300 are CTDOT owned. MNRR is looking at the future of EMU's, etc. and replacing with double-deckers, loco hauled, etc (I've got a thread on it here somewhere). The diesel fleet will need to be replaced or upgraded from half-life Gennies and the Brokevilles. That would free up the 8's. Again, it's a ways off.
