I saw pictures earlier of the LIRR rehabbing the middle platform. Any news on its progress?

The original 8 car platform is still in the sorry shape that it originally was. They extended the platform by 2 car lengths on each side to make it a full 12 car platform. My guess is that it will not be used for passenger service but for intensive cleaning based on the evenly spaced out storage closets throughout the length of the platform (similar to the platform in WSY).

The yard itself has been rehabilitated and will be used to store MU equipment throughout the day due to the construction at WSY taking more track space away.

Rehabilitation of Willets Point station (including ADA elevator and extended platforms) is on the April 2014 Metro-North/LIRR board committee docket.

Is the current platform in use 8 or 12 cars in length?
