The NJ-Association of Railroad Passengers chartered the Cape May Seashore Lines train at Tuckahoe on Saturday May 7.

The consist was ex-PRSL Budd RDC M-407, ex-NYC tavern-lounge #37 (Alex DeCroce) and F7 "Lehigh Valley 576".

Very Nice Bob!

Thanks for posting

Nothing like scraping a little rust off the rails on a beautiful day!

NJ-ARP put together an informative program on the potential for CMSL to contribute to the local economy and Tony Macrie & crew were gracious hosts.

The Tuckahoe station restoration is beautiful and I can't wait to see how the tower restoration turns out. Nothing like exercising on a turn-of-the-century manual switch machine to get the kinks out of your back.

Thanks, as always, for sharing these Bob.

Plus the other day, PHI annouced they were again going to try to sell the England electric generating station. If a buyer is found, the station may continue to need coal indefinitely, thereby preserving the Beasley line to there. If no buyer, the plant, the only customer I think, will close in a couple of years casting doubt on the continued existance of the Beasley line.

I wonder what impact the absence of regular CSX volume traffic through Tuckahoe would mean to CMSL's ability to interchange with CSX as they (CMSL) develop their freight ops.

As E-44 might already know, the issue of freight interchanging was discussed at the NJ-ARP Patrons Luncheon in Tuckahoe May 7.

Nothing's for certain, of course, but given Cape May Seashore Lines' (CMSL) efforts to gain trackage rights on the Cape May Branch north of Tuckahoe, an effort strongly aided by NJ-ARP, it might be possible for CMSL to interchange with CSX at some more northerly point -- Winslow Junction, for example.

Should CSX continue to maintain current service reach, the status quo (Tuckahoe) remains in place, of course.

The important distinction (and silver lining?) is that CSX's potential departure from the Cape May Branch would not mean abandonment of the Cape May Branch. The branch is owned by New Jersey Transit, and it can assign trackage rights to other operators -- including CMSL. (We acknowledge we can't speak for Beesley's Point.)

NJ-ARP and others, including Buena Vista Township, seek trackage rights for CMSL north of Tuckahoe for passenger options, regardless of CSX's future plans.
