Do they go through the same or similar hiring and training process like freight conductors? Such as, will a csx mechanic still go to the REDI center in Atlanta to train up? I understand that there are certain things that everyone probably needs to know such as train movement things of that sort.

He'll still go to the REDI center for training and to get his safety certification. And he'll probably be taken on a tour of the car shop there in Atlanta towards the end.

Last time I was at REDI a guy in my class had a buddy there for diesel shop utility man and he had to go for 3 weeks there, so pretty much any job you get you will go there for a bit.
