To save Otto the trouble of splitting the thread, I have a question about the WAG F7s.

Are they actually still in service? the two in Scotty's photos in the other thread look like they are in a storage line.

...go to a Louisiana short line owned by the Salzberg's? But that was almost 30 years! ago

I shot those 2 units back in 9/72 @ Galeton while they were still active on the WAG. Both are ex SP & have the larger 1500 gal fuel tank. By 4/80 they were at Hornell where I again got pix of them. They were refurbished & then went to the PAT in Pittsburgh for commuter service before being picked up by CDOT who used them for commuter service as well. In the latter part of the 90's, Guilford installed HEP in both units. AFAIK, they are operable.

Does PATrain still exist?

The Port Authority of Allegheny County (responsible for Pittsburgh, PA area transit) no longer operates commuter rail. Both trainsets they were using became available in 1989, and were purchased by CDOT in 1990 for the startup of Shore Line East service betwen New Haven and Old Saybrook. They included two of the F7's, which became 6690 and 6691, painted to look like New Haven FL9's.

SP, WAG, Louisiana, PAT, SLE... certainly colorful, well-travelled units!

The 6690 and 6691 are currently in storage at the Railroad Museum of New England in Waterbury, CT. They last ran sometime in 2000 (according to their daily inspection sheets); I don't remember the exact date. Both units are currently unserviceable.

...an F7 demo from the 40s! Possibly! Shot the units in the paint shop in 1971 or 2 and on the first day of operation in three months or more back in March of 1977 with them (and us) hip deep in snow. In fact I took a great picture of them in black and white as they moved east of Gaines Jct. heading out to Ansonia. Don Jislon stood next to me and did a color shot that appeared on the cover of TRAINS the following December! Don't believe there was much more activity through the rest of '77 and into '78 before all was closed down. My surprise is that they got into a McGinnis suit and that I've seen them but did't recognize them!!

Here is a WAG roster that shows where all the F's wound up:

http://www.s363.com/wag/diesel.html

known survivors:

2000
2100
it looks like 2000 and 2100 belong to the Golden Gate RR museum,
but they arent there yet:
http://www.ggrm.org/about_the_museum/diesel/sp6378.htm
So they are probably still with the Louisiana & North West Railroad,
in Louisiana. "stored servicable"
still in WAG colors it looks like! (but with a lot of graffiti. :(

2200 is now ConnDot 6690, in the NH scheme.
2300 is now ConnDot 6691 in the NH scheme.
anyone know the future plans for these 2 units?

2400
"stored in disrepair" in Chadbourn, North Carolina.

2500
Texas Limited # 200
stored in Galveston, Texas

FP7A 805
restored as her original WP 805A!
http://www.wplives.org/PRM_Home/Locomot ... 5afp7.html

So, the good news is that all 7 WAG F-units still survive!
(the lone WAG F7B was scrapped)

but only one of the 7 is well preserved in a museum (#805)

two belong to a museum, but arent moved there yet.
2000
2100
so their future is probably secure. although for now they are probably decaying outdoors..

2200
2300
the ConnDot NH units..owners or future plans? dont know yet.

2400 is stored in derelict condition outdoors..
most questionable fate of the units..she needs saving.

2500's fate is basically unknown, but she is "stored" in Texas.

Connecticut DOT owns the locomotives. They are on loan to RMNE, or in storage for CDOT, whichever way you want to look at it.

There was also a WP B unit at Galeton around 1970/71. It sat back in the weeds & was a parts loco. Fans had been disassembled etc. Got a few slides of it back then.

#2500 was never lettered or numbered for the WAG.

#2000 and #2001 are at the Golden Gate Museum in San Francisco.

The Western Pacific F7B remained in very derilect condition, at Galeton into the 1980s. It was never lettered or numbered for the WAG, and it was scrapped in either '86 or '87, during the great scrap drive that wiped out nearly all of the remaining pieces of RR rolling stock.

Does anyone know if any of the WAG's bldgs still exist # Galeton? I went thru there in 95' but could'nt recall where they were. I asked some locals but none had a clue as to where they stood.
