Does (or did) anyone make Milk Cars similar to what NYC used in the 40's? They were about 53' long.

You have to be a member of the website to view the extended information. Most of it focuses on cars used by the Rutland and D&H in the early 1950s, but might be helpful. At the very least, there's a list of manufacturers on the page I linked to - that should give you somewhere to start.
