It has now been 40 years since Hurricane Agnes washed out the WAG tracks at
Pusher Siding in June 1972. A Wellsville bound freight had to return to Galeton
after discovering a washout.

The ICC issued a service order on June 21 to reroute and direct traffic due to
flood damage.

I think that date is incorrect because a website said that Agnes moved into
Pennsylvania on June 23.

Abandonment was approved in 1973 for these 37 miles and the tracks were torn up
in 1973/1974.

All of the r.o.w. still exists today from Galeton to Wellsville.

I looked up some of the WAG row on Bing and Google maps:

I found some WAG ties still in the ground next to the Rt 6 grade crossing in
Gaines:

I thought the WAG trail was dead out of Wellsville, but it has a page at the NYS Dept. of Environemntal Conservation:

Here's website that has pics of a walk on the trail in Jan. 2013:

A walk in January 2012 that shows the PA/NY state line marker:

Hi all.

Not a lot seems to have happened around here in quite a while, but in the Covid lockdown (that will date this post!) I have been going though old magazine issues and ran across some WAG photos again and started looking for things on the web.

I've come across pdf versions of the Edwards Lewis book and 1972 Trains articles and the aerial photos on pennpilot are very interesting to see where everything was in past decades.
My particular location interest if Newfield Jct, as I've always figured the meeting of the WA&G and C&PA would be a neat place for a model, particularly with the operational limitations of the grade on the Wellsville line needing train to double the hill in addition to the interchange of freight. I hadn't realized the extra team track was there until I came across the set of C&PA photos on the historicpittsburgh site.

I gather there have been a couple of symposiums covering the B&S and WA&G in past years, just wondering if anyone can point me at other sources on the web.

Thanks.
Ian.
