Hi, this is my first time posting! I am trying to make a complete list of current industries that receive rail shipments on former New Haven RR lines, mainly in Connecticut, New York, and western Mass. (I will continue with Rhode Island and eastern Mass. when I have time for research). This is what I have so far, I need a little help with any industries I missed or couldn't find a name for. Also, some of the list may be outdated, as I used google earth to originally find some industries listed.

A far cry from the days when NYNH&H ads boasted of "serving the great industrial states of Connecticut, Massachussetts and Rhode Island"...
  by chrisnewhaven

I agree Ridgefielder, which is why I'm making this list, basically trying to take stock of what's left. However there are bright spots, as I was glad to see Firestone was still a rail customer in the area, although they moved their plant from the Naugatuck Line to the Highland. To Mr rt, I considered that but felt having a similar thread in another forum was being overkill, however I will reconsider it now!

On the Waterbury, tank cars south of Waterbury go to Hubbard-Hall and gondolas north of Waterbury on the former Watertown Branch go to scrap dealer Albert Bros.

Hi:

You might want to join this Yahoo Group:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/C ... nes/files/

Is the files section, there is a slightly outdated list of CSOR customers, and I think some stuff on the P&W as well, might be good reference material for your project.

Thanks!

Thanks for the list! Some notes to ponder:

Armory Branch

Crop Production Services, Warehouse Point, Conn. - Actually is in Scantic

CNZR has been known to store surplus tank cars.

Suffield Branch

Kongsberg Automotive, Suffield, Conn. - Formely Teleflex. I don't believe they have service. There is a privately owned Conrail boxcar there. I was there 2-3 months ago and the line is overgrown. When CSOR started, they picked up the car unknowing it was privately owned. The owner was none too happy.

Camp Hartell, Windsor Locks, Conn. - The white tank car there is used for training purposes, HAZMAT I believe. Not an interchange car. Maybe occasional flatcar for equipment moves, very rare.

Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, Conn. - The tank car at the end of the line near the Dunkin Donuts has run-off de-icing fluid used on aircraft. A car usually lives there on a yearly basis.

Ahlstrom Dexter LLC, Windsor Locks, Conn. - no comment

Turf Products Corp, Windsor Locks, Conn. - I don't believe they are the actual customer. The cars (usually 3-4) are spotted there contain plastic pellet for injection molding. They are transloaded to truck from what I have been told and witnessed.

**The comments above are my own personal opinions and observations and should not be taken as fact. They are provided as a guide for consideration. I do not represent CNZR or CSOR in any fashion.

Thanks Ron!

I've edited the list accordingly. As for Ahlstrom Dexter, that is the company that came up at an address that corresponds to an active siding (3 Chirnside Road, Windsor Locks). I can't tell if they are the actual customer or not without going their myself (as was the case with Turf Products).

A-Dexter is correct and they still are very active at Bradley.

Great list! Here are a couple possible additions.

Waterbury Branch
Albert Brothers Scrap Metal - Unknown (gondolas/hoppers), North Waterbury
Waterbury Republican? Have seen a CN Boxcar of newsprint spotted there in the past?

New Haven-Hartford-Springfield
Hartford Courant, Hartford, Conn. (I believe they still get a rare box car of Newsprint)
Hartford Lumber Co. (They may or may not be an active shipper.)
Marjam Supply Co. West Hartford, CT (I saw a box car their about 6 weeks ago, so I think they are an active user at this time)

Manchester Branch
Tri-State Brick (Both Sanford & Hawley and Tri-State use the same unloading ramp, on the Tri-State Brick, Hillyard St side of the "Yard")
Sanford & Hawley Inc., Manchester, Conn.

Armory Branch
Redland Brick?

Suffield Branch
Babylon Recycling is the company C&D (?), Harvey Lane, Suffield, Conn.
http://usarecycle.com/tour-our-facilities.html

Airline/Valley Branch
Connecticut Regional Market, Hartford, Conn.
Murphy Road Recycling, Hartford, Conn.
Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority may be shipping out material on rail as well. They are next door to Murphy Road, but completely separate business entities.

Are they actually shipping material now?? If so, what is being shipped out? - Red Technologies, Portland, Conn.
  by chrisnewhaven

Thanks!
I'll look into the companies you mention and add them to the list. I don't know if Red Technologies is shipping anything in/out, but they built a brand new siding and have had a P&W gondola spotted there for awhile. I added them to the list because (being a new customer) they could ship something in/out unexpectedly. If they do not ship anything in the next few months I will remove them. The basic requirement for this list is at least 1 car/year (unless otherwise noted).
C.J.V.

Edit: Marjam Supply Co, Hartford Courant,Tri-state Brick, and Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority made the list, Babylon Recycling was edited in.

CJV:

I'll keep my eyes peeled with your one year parameter in mind, and let you know if I see anything out there in terms of active/abandoned customers. I'm around the greater Hartford area, and frequently in other parts of the state.
