I had the occasion to visit the Northern Division this week, and here are some of the results of that trip. I fiorst caught up with the SY-1 crew on Tuesay afternoon as they were making some moves in Cortland:

(The rivet counters may notice the different style of S Ball used on the 3016 in the above image)

The following day, Wednesday, proved to be interesting as well. Overnight, the 3016(due for its 92 day inspection) was swapped out for the 3010,which was now facing the opposite direction of the 3016 from the day before.

Wednesday also brought a bit of news, as the SY-1 was to grab a car that was placed behind the station, and place it into the Marietta siding. This is the former Rubbermaid plant(long since gone), and this was the first car into that siding in 10 years! nice to see someone recognize the value of rail service!

The car having been spotted without incident, it was soon time to head north from Cortland. They assembled their train just south of Port Watson Street, after a few drill moves:

I cahsed him from Cortland all the way to Syracuse, not an easy feat normally, but some slow orders helped me a bit:

Preble:

Coming into Tully:

Making interchange with CSX at CP-293, from the Willis Ave bridge:

After dropping their outbounds, they came out onto the main at CP-296, and reversed light to CP 293 to re enter the pocket and pick up their inbound traffic:

And finally, unrelated to any of the above(although uits still NYS&W material, here are two images of a one of a kind hopper on the railroad, taken at Jamesville, just south of Syracuse:

Thats it for now! my thanks and appreciation to the crews fior their hospitality. A great bunch of guys, to be sure.

Nice Pictures!!

We see that Yellow Hopper 101 down here in Binghamton on a regular basis. It sits of the siding delivery stone to the asphalt company.

When I worked for the NYS&W 1985-1992, the NYS&W 101 was a RS-3!
I guess it's been transformed into a hopper now!

I'm not sure where to put this, but I thought this thread might be a good place.

I've been following the Syracuse main at Bing/Google maps.

Here's an impressive trestle on the quarry spur at Jamesville:

I've never been to this area.

The CNY HS has some equipment stored near this trestle.
