I am modeling CSX SD40 8374 before it was retired. I know it was still in Chesapeake & Ohio Blue on 2/14/82 and in Chessie System paint by 6/86. When was CSX 8374 painted into Chessie System paint, when was it retired, and who did it go to? In the CSX photo what is the white thing on the front porch?

Me thinks it was painted shortly after the one picture was taken in 1982. I think it was retired around 1990-91, where it went to Utah Railway, where it was rebuilt by MK in November of 1991. It was renumbered 9008.

In June of 2001 the leases expired and the SD40's were replaced by MK5000Cs from Motive Power Industries.

Btw the white box is a styrafoam cooler. :wink:
