NZ "The Greens are pushing fast intercity rail as the type of climate-friendly, job-creating project that should be prioritised post-COVID-19.

They want significant investment over 10 years to roll out fast, electric passenger services connecting key provincial centres with Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch."

Australia, Labor pushes for high speed rail investment.

"High speed rail could once again be on the table, with federal Labor transport spokeswoman Catherine King describing the project’s potential as an “economic game changer” for Australia after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In comments reported in the Sydney Morning Herald, King said that building a high-speed rail network along the eastern seaboard would be able to cut travel times."

"New Zealand is looking for major infrastructure projects to get the country going once its lockdown phase ends.

After the NZ government announced on April 1 that it would be looking to fund infrastructure, including rail, worth over $10 million councils have now submitted proposals.

Although the projects come from a range of infrastructure sectors, both Auckland and Wellington have nominated rail projects as some of their priorities."

In England the government approval for the first phase of High-speed 2 linking London with Birmingham has been given. The initial contracts for the provision of ballast and such have been let, and two contracts to haul necessary materials have been signed, one with DB Schenker, and one to GB Railfreight.
