When these trains leave the Water Level Route at Syracuse, is there reverse moves involved. Or, is there still a track between CSX and Susquehanna . I don't think it would be the Auburn Road.

There is a connection at CP293.

In the old days when it was the NYC and the DL&W, how did the DL&W cross the NYC main. Was there a tunnel or did they cross at grade?

It was at least partially by tunnel - you can still see the remnants of a portal looking west from the Willis Ave. overpass.

I got a dumb question. When CSX detours over NYSW from Binghamton to Syracuse, why don't they use the Utica branch too? Wouldn't they be able to increase train frequency?

Some trains come directly on to the Geddes St. lead. Others are parked near Wegman's etc. and the power must run around the train before heading south on NYSW. Its up to CSXT. Detour trains come down the Syracuse side probably for many reasons (i.e. crew qualifications, no street running, track conditions, traffic etc).

So is anything etched in stone yet on when these detour trains will start?? I never heard of a definate date.

Thanks,
Steve

This detour traffic is going west so coming to UT to then go west (thru
SYR) wouldn't make sense. There is no interchange traffic at UT other
than power being worked on at the shop.

This will be happening soon so be on the lookout!! Is there any reason why they always detour Q156?" I would think it would make more sense to Detour the Q162/Q163 since the arrive and depart Syracuse, NY... I also heard NS will be detouring some North/South trains on the Southern Tier west of Bingo....

Stay tuned!

I am going to say that they only detour the Q156 is the fact that if you were to run the Q162 and Q163 and also keep the Q271 that would be a lot of work for the road crews to move both the Q163 and Q271 west because of the small amount of road crews. But thats only what i think.
