Don't forget that METRA has about 230 (near) level boarding cars for low level platforms that address handicapped access and rapid boarding without requiring high-level platforms.

Given the possibility of level boarding at a low level or a high level platform, arguably low level platforms should be preferred as falling from one would be less injurous than falling from a high level platform.

Good luck.... but I think you'll be wasting your time. Those meetings are largely administrative... the biggest excitement would be them approving procurement contracts that have already been decided.

There are low level platforms at over 80% of the stations, with a 70 year history of safety and accommodation for the disabled. The few places where disability access are a concern are almost entirely within the city limits of Chicago and in locations where Federal funding was already provided to get those up to code.

You are partially right here on the METRA board not being directly responsible to the riding public...The "Citizens Advisory Boards" are supposed to get the public more involved as they also have been created in the following cities that i have live and work in Buffalo NFTA,Cleveland RTA.Pittsburgh PA but in reality they act as a buffer between the political appointees on the board and the Unwashed masses of Joe Public. Over the years we have brought bike issues, Handicapped Issues, Safety and Crime on transit and transit expansion to deaf ears. Its only when a major politico and a major construction and engineering contractor can get Federal Money for a major project or things get so bad that "SOMETHING' has to be done does anything get done.
