Hi all-

Pine Creek Railroad in Allaire State Park will be having its annual Railroaders Weekend again on September 7th & 8th. This year we`ll have two passenger trains running in opposite directions of each other, being pulled by U.S. Army #7751 and US Steel #45. Plymouth #5 will be running the track maintenance train. There will also be several model railroader clubs with their stuff set up, other models and railroadiana for sale, whistle blowing, repair shop and carbarn tours, other freight and passenger cars out on display, motor cars, band organs and more. Should be a fun event this year.
Alas, no steam again this year, but things are unfolding behind the scenes to bring the 2-6-0 #46 project to an end, and bring steam back to Pine Creek.

Chris-

It`s been done sporadically in the past, but usually only at membership picnics and such. We gave it a trial run a few Sundays ago (and good thing we did, had almost 1,000 passengers that day) and it worked out fine, and the people seemed to love it. We had 7751, the CNJ caboose and open car going "backwards" around the loop, and as soon as they got back 45 and the CN coach woud leave off the passing siding going the "right way", so it works out the trains will leave every 15 minutes rather than on the half hour. Should be a fun day. 45 has a Leslie RS3L on it now too which is nice to hear, as seen in this video from this past weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf3S0mCoaFI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Take care! -Chris

Pine Creek Direction of Travel Trivia:

The regular operations of counterclockwise "eastbound" traffic was because of the right-hand workings of the Shay, so people at the station could see it in action. At the old location in Marlboro, the left side of the Shay faced the station, hiding the fascinating clockwork everything-moving-at-once engines and valve gear.

One Christmas Express, a push-pull out-and-back operation was in place due to major trackwork putting the west straightaway and southwest curve out of service.

When the Shay re=entered service back in 1988(?), it ran coupled to the rear of the caboose and the train ran "backwards", just because we could. That didn't last long though.
