The PB&NE shop is due to be torn down sometime in the next two weeks. All documents and artifacts of significance have been moved out over the last few weeks by the National Museum of Industrial history and its volunteers. All shop work is currently being done open air on the ladder tracks leading to the shop area. The spare parts stores have been jammed into three over the road trailers for now with a new shop to be built sometime this summer.

I noticed that the old PBNE HQ office building was leveled a few months ago, sad to see another piece of its' history going. Why are the shops being leveled (structural problems, asbestos, etc?) and will the replacement be at the same site?

The shops are being leveled as the PBNE lease on them expired. The new casino in Bethlehem is being built on the site of the ore yard and they are knocking down the shop to make the casino a little bigger. I do not yet know where the new shop will be. There is still one PBNE building (non-tower) still standing and occupied by a non-railroad company.
