Another way railroads cut jobs was interdivisional runs (ID). It did away with 40% of the freight pools. Plus these jobs never get caught under the FRA required rest at best they get 5 1/2 to 6 round trips per half. They still make $100,000+. I've read of attempts at trying to lowering the HOS to 10 hrs that would be a mistake. That would be a big hit financially. Like you stated the job would be less appealing.
