This is the last full alert on the PATH web site(http://www.paalerts.com/recent_pathalerts.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;):
"9/23/2014 1:08:03 PM
Train service on the JSQ-33rd line & HOB-33rd line is suspended indefinitely. NJT is cross honoring PATH ticket holders via Bus and Rail. "

They had the same problem yesterday although the service was restored earlier. Anyone know what the problem is and what this "Track condition" is? I assume it is somewhat serious but are we talking about a long service suspension? As is always the case with PATH, no details are published and there is no ETA about the opening. Does anyone have any information that they can share?

At the same time, I was surprised that the transfer in Secaucus did not seem substantially affected. The trains seem to be as crowed as they usually are.

The Port Authority Press releases are always better then the alerts when they make press releases.

http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=2077" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The original problem was a electrical fire near the 23rd street station on Sunday 9/21. When they realized it was going to take time to fix, they stopped the weekend work and opened the Newark-World Trade Center line. Hoboken-WTC center service started at 6:00 a.m. Monday.

The clean up from that was not finished until noon Monday. http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=2078" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tuesday, they closed again due to smoke conditions. http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=2079" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Service was restored. http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=2080" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And then closed because of smoke conditions again. http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=2081" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My guess, there is a smoldering fire that they missed on Sunday, and they are having problems finding or extinguishing it.

I assisted some tourists getting from climate march end point to christopher street, but i'm not sure if they ever got into NJ via PATH. Woulda been nice to have alerts like i signed up and i would have taken them to newark penn and showed them the way to get to jersey city if needed. I don't know why the alerts didn't get sent, but oh well.
