Are the PATH block signals similar to the ones used for the NYC subway for controlling trains?

Yes and No........PATH has it's own signal system somewhat different from NYC Subways. There used to be a website with a good chart of all the aspects. Don't know if it's still around.

On PATH, simple red, yellow, green mean the same as NYC. However PATH's aspect for station-timers and grade-timers is a double-yellow. You can watch those signals clear as the train approaches at the correct speed.

PATH also has 3-headed signals at diverging points. If the red is on top it's a left diverging route. Red on the bottom is a right diverging route. Unlike NYC where any diverging route is shown by a yellow on the bottom head.

Simple, right?
