I'm guessing whatever windfall they get from this will go towards trying to get the airline back to flying regular jet service. I don't think the railroad will see much, or any of it. :(

That is a likely scenario, considering that they already take profits from the railroad side and transfer them over to the airline side.

Does "Pan Am" haul freight by air?

Not that I'm aware of. My memory is a bit hazy, but I think they did have some freight-capable airplanes at one point in time... I'm just not sure if they still have them or not. They were little prop-driven planes. I'm not an planefan so I don't remember the specifics.

Casa 212's. Twin turbo prop aircraft with a tailgate (think mini C-130 hercules) real durable and fast despite their ungainly looks. When one of the 727's would bonk on a ramp somewhere, they would load them with tools and spare parts and fly out and fix it, kind of like in house road service.

Hmmm people who like trains are called railfans. So I think the term you are looking for is "AirFan" :-D

Apparently the NorthPoint deal with Archon fell through:
A Texas-based investment group has pulled out of a deal to buy NorthPoint, a grand city-within-a-city slated to take shape near the Charles River in Cambridge.

Archon Group, which had won a bidding war for the high-profile project last fall, is out of the deal, said David Fink, one of the development’s owners.

Hmm I don't suppose anyone can talk the state into buying this for the MBTA to use as an expansion on BET? :-)

Turn it back into yard 7. Then trash cars can haul away the rubble of Northpoint. :-D

I hope NS addressed the issue of the airline when it negotiated with Pan Am and the contract specifies that profits from Pan Am Southern cannot be squandered on airlines.

Yes, the timing of this makes it possible that divesting the airline, or ceasing all operations and terminating all leases and other activities related to it, were part of the PAS negotiations. At least now NS can be certain that it's no longer a factor.

Wow I just read that article. All those violations, these guys are real shit heads. Its too bad they can't just pull a "rail license" like than can a license to operate planes.

"Pan Am" was clearly over their head in attempting to run an airline. It wasn't enough for them to debase the good name of the original B&M, they grounded the Pan Am brand too.
