I guess the rusty drive wheel clues one in that that locomotive hasn't moved for some time.

Just an FYI there are 3 c40-8b on the way to the P&W as we speak. Picked this off NERAIL;

Tentative new locos for the PW, coming to PW. 3 GE B40-8W wide cabs No's 561, 562 and 582. The 561 should be close to the Chicago area and slated to enter the Plainfield Paint Shop immediately for PW paint. The 562 and 582 are moving east thru Arizona. Gonna be used primarily in stone service to New York and coal service. Unlike the regular PW fleet, these rascals had desktop controls vs conventional controls stands. PW No's 4005, 4006 and 4007.

they are the ex bnsf 561 , 562 and 582...you can google to see what they look like.

They are the same horsepower as the existing Dash 8-40Bs that P&W owns. The main difference is the safety cab vs. the standard cab.

All 3 GP40s have been sold to the Luzerne & Susquehanna Railroad in Pennsylvania. They are a short line, but they are also building an ethanol facility and needed engines to haul the tank cars.

The BNSF Dash 8s have been patched, I caught one leading today.

561 and 582 are still in the shop at Worcester receiving much needed repairs before they go to Plainfield.

562 was the first one they worked on. 562 was the one that came in with the fire damage to the long hood (the damage was done a long time ago while BNSF was operating it) and it has been fixed and repainted with green paint. This suggests that it will run around in this patch scheme until the other ones go into service as the P&W needs engines for the increased traffic.

I've heard a rumor (which means it may or may not be true) that the warbonnet is in sad mechanical shape and needs a lot of work.

Three GP's are going to the Lehigh Railway. Should be being shipped to Pittston, PA to the L&S shops for inspection this week and sent north to the Lehigh Railway soon after.

Are there many 4 axle dash 8's? I think this is the first one ive seen with only 4 axles.

P&W has 13 4 axle -8s not counting the new 3. There were all of the LMX B39-8s, 81 B40-8Ws for atsf, 38 atsf b40-8s, and 89 b40-8s for up. There are probably more but not all still survive. Plus there are many B39-8s on shortlines.

The P&W 3002 was the one that was out of service. But all 3 have been sold to the Luzerne Susquehanna Railway, who are suppose to be starting to haul ethanol. At the P&W Worcester shops last week they were spotted with the names and numbers painted out, so they should be moving West shortly. The first B40-8W BNSF 562 was operating as of Thursday on Worc local WX-1

The units will ship this week to the L&S engine house in Pittston (Coxton) for a good inspection. From there the two running units are coming up to the Lehigh Railway where we actually need them. They will be put to good use running 50 to 100 car trains.
