I hope it doesn't come down to it and the NEGS finds a good partner in CSX for getting this new traffic (or any traffic) to/from the customer.

Looks like there might be some progress toward the new customer. There were crews working adjacent to the track just south of the Manville Road crossing in Tilton yesterday.

Has track work started down at Lowell Junction?

Not sure if it's related to the new customer, but in an NEGS group on the Book of Faces, I saw a photo dated November 3 of 20 hoppers going north from Concord. I'm not sure who else would need those other than the possible new customer.

I had some business in the area over the weekend, so I checked out the view of the ROW from the Manville Road crossing. Some work definitely has been done on the east side of the ROW just south of the crossing. RIght now it looks like they've built up a short dirt road that rises to maybe a foot or two above the level of the rails. It's very rough looking, so it looks more like the start of something than the end of something. There was no sign of recent work.

Nice to hear about more business potential on this line.

By any chance did you or, anyone else who has been in the area take any photos of the activity to post?

Thanks.

There seems to be some work taking ace on the bridge over the merrimack just north of concord. Unsure exactly what, but I think I saw a jobsite trailer on the north side so not a quick project

No real news, but I did see a big plot of land near 3M is "Sale Pending":

https://www.newenglandcommercialpropert ... n-NH-03276

The prospectus for the site notes:
Another plus for this site is its rail access. There is an active rail spur that makes periodic deliveries to the 3M facility and there are several active prospects searching for 8 to 15 acre sites requiring rail. This location is the only site in Central New Hampshire with rail access.

Since this line has been my obsession since I watched Goodwin RR trains pass by from my elementary school classroom, I periodically waste an afternoon or two every now and then to see what I can find.

I still haven't seen anything regarding the Lynch Materials gravel loading, and my guess is that's not going to happen given the zero progress at the source and destination of that material. However, I did see a lengthy entry in the Tilton Planning Board minutes from 5/28 where a builder of prefabricated wood framing was looking to develop the site, including adding apartments and relocating their operation there.

The minutes mentioned that the company spoke with the rail operator about using the existing spur to bring in lumber by rail and that the operator was "excited" at the prospect of another customer on that spur. (The minutes were a little confused about whether it was "dimensional lumber" or if it was "dimensional lumber from a company named Dimension Lumber", which appears to be a sawmill in Livermore Falls, ME.

Givent the state of pollution on that side, apartments as a feature (requirement?) for the relocation, and traffic concerns, I'm not holding my breath...but wouldn't it be nice for NEGS to get some more traffic?

I've been an observer (directly and remotely) of this line for around 55 years now - ever since I was "old enough" to venture out from the home grounds on my own. While that one additional customer is intriguing and the volume could be a few cars a month based on what I've seen in Saco, I'd still would have liked to be a fly on the wall in the VTR board meeting where this acquisition was discussed. There must be some sort of long term vision here like trash/CD trains, oil/propane (like Burlington), gravel or car storage. Or maybe CSX gives up switching the customers out of the Nashua yard?
