I rarely check the Reading forum as my roots are in New England and
upstate New York.
I must comment about a recent topic that I see has been locked.
I do think that an obiturary has a place on this or any other topic on this
forum. A lot of people who participate in this are either active or retired
railroaders like myself and this and word of mouth are our best contacts
with things back home.
Of course, I knew a lot of people both on and off the railroad and if one of
my associates, friends or brothers passed on, please don't deny me the
right to hear about it here in the event that I have not heard about it from
someone/somewhere else.
My suggestion, let it get posted, leave it open for about two days for
comments then lock it.
WHAT HARM CAN THAT DO.
All of these topics are more interesting because of the comments of both
active and retired railroaders on these forums. You should not "step on
the fingers" of the people who help these topics along.

Noel,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this very personal subject. You made an eloquent case. I have decided to amend this forum's rules in favor of allowing obituary notices. After a few days, such threads can indeed be locked. I hope that the change will be helpful.

Sincerely,
Franklin Gowen

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.
Too bad all things can't get resolved this easily.
