Same with the Lackawanna's Bergen Tunnel: east shaft west shaft. The north tube was built during the Civil War and the south tube in 1908.

I sure hope they rehabilitated the tunnel before they put the oil pipeline through it. Last I saw the tunnel had a lake in it with running water...that was a long time ago. I don't think a plate C car would clear it either.

It looks like the west portal ROW runs UNDER a portion of the Fairview Cemetery? difficult to tell with Google image.....and the impressive three story vent shaft in your back yard!

There was a short piece (sort of a "railroad oddities" thing) in Railroad Magazine many years ago pointing out that the railroad did indeed run under the cemetery.
