I couldn't believe my luck when I came across this on eBay a few nights ago... The privately funded and printed timetable for the NYSW commuter trains in 1966...

Jim Guthrie told me the story of how these timetables came about, and the part he played in putting them together and distributing them. What a story!

I'll add the 1965 schedule after lunch.

Here's the 1965 issue:

Jim Guthrie tells me that he asked the printer to match the maroon ink used in earlier issues, but the printer messed up.

I rode the "Butler Day Express" several different times and indeed I enjoyed it every time. Unfortunately by the early to mid
60's the service was so far gone that it could not be saved at the level of only three round trips in the rush hour weekdays.
When token funds finally did come from New Jersey it was truly too little and way too late.
New Jersey could have saved much commuter service as it existed in the 50's and 60's had they been willing to step up with
some financial support and reduced or no taxes on railroad property and facilities that were devoted to passenger operations.
Some of the service that existed in let's say 1958 is gone for good and there is probably no way of restoring it but in other
cases maybe if the state were to really get involved and show a sincere effort maybe something could happen to restore
something.
Do any of you remember the dark green timetables on yellow paper? I think they were also put out by private sources and
not by the railroad.
