EDIT - I found the error and fixed it. I copied the M&U L&L to the O&W listing. The O&W should have been 41.454850, -74.412820 for the TT-only. I'll fix it. Thanks for catching it.

Are you sure you are thinking of the right one? It's listed as NYO&W and is at the southern end of the yard throat before the O&W complex. Up where the 17 is is where the tracks are really going to spread out and form the O&W yard/shop complex. The shops will be to the NW of the 17 on the map.

The M&U turntable and engine house was here: 41.442865, -74.412550

I hadn't posted the M&U yet.

Very nice work, thanks for all your effort. I look forward to the NYCRR list of TT's

But, it seems that your Lat/Long listing for the PRR Rochester TT-RH is exactly where the still extant PRR bridge over the Erie canal is ?

Rochester - TT+RH - 43.122796, -77.644887 Is (by looking at Mapquest and other sources) exactly where the PRR bridge crosses the canal.

That is just north of the I-390 "flyover" were the expressway crosses the Genesee river.

I tried to post a graphic, but got frustrated and gave up.

I "think" the PRR TT + RH was "downstream" a bit and nearer the current I-490 crossing of the river ?

Cheers, Kevin.

Probably should put an asterisk or something to indicate those that still exist. For the sake of sanity limit that to those that can actually be used, not say like the LV in Manchester which is apparently still there but buried when the pit was filled.

when we created the NY state Roundhouse and turntable list about 20 years ago, we did actually confirm the location of that PRR roundhouse is in fact exactly where the canal is today!
It of course existed before the canal was built..(that section of the barge canal was built in the 19-teens)

Thanks, Scot. Yes, the RH pre-dated the building of the Barge Canal. All very different now. The Barge Canal through that area was put in during WWI. It was a big deal as it took the diverting of precious metal during the war for bridges. The RH there was quite large and covered.

lvrr325 - Pretty obvious if you plug in a coordinate in Google Maps and see if a TT shows up. The point is not to see where a TT is now, but to understand where everything was, how things changed and what used to be. If there was a turntable there might have been more facilities. If it was a TT only, why just a turntable? With Buffalo, you soon learn how they tucked them in all over to allow crews to change direction as needed.

Plus, the railroads know which ones can be used. No sense in me noting that.

Here's a screen shot. Yes, the RH was up there. You'll note the PRR bridge to downtown to the right. When the RH was torn down, and the Barge Canal built, the later engine house was just ahead of the red marker on dry land. You could have walked out the back of the engine house and fairly quickly jumped in the canal.

NYD - You seem to be correct now on M&U - when I entered your third O&W location the other day it took me close to the M&U. Today it takes me to the right locations. The M&U spot according to Google is about 180' SSW of the actual location. The foundations of both the TT and tank are still there, so easy to find. Tank was a double spout, one for the table lead and one for the main. Your map of the third location (and Google) seem to show it south of Wisner and adjacent to North Street, is that correct? I didn't know there was ever a table there, but the main O&W shops would be compass NE, with Wisner just north of the 17 if I'm correct. It does seem to show the curve away from North Street at the bottom end.

This shows the listed M&U Google location and the actual facilities, within a foot or so.

Thanks for making the list.

Thanks for clarifying exactly where it was. This site won't let me go back and edit the previous post so I made this entry more exact based on your map:

Middletown & Unionville
Middletown - TT+EH - 41.443235, -74.412410

Yes, you are thinking correct on the O&W one. That's what been fascinating on finding all these, finding all the extras. There are many more compared the original lists from this site.

Thanks. Got it. I haven't posted the Erie yet as I'm double-checking Buffalo ones.
