Sheer luck had my friend and I down at Bush Terminal by 0930 this morning, in time to see them shuffling cars in the yard. We saw them shove a cut of cars onto the float, and then was able to snag photos of the float departure (McAllister tug) around 1000am. They rolled up to the BAT to get a cut of cars and brought those back to the yard. Lunch break at 1030.

Do they always use that tug?

If so you can track it at http://aprs.fi/?call=i%2F366897820" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and try to figure out when they float the cars.

I setup an AIS receiving station a few weeks ago since no one had one for NY Harbor.
