NYNH&HRR oil can question

I picked up this oil can recently from an estate. I'm trying to put a range of years on it. My feeling is that it is from the 30's or 40s, but perhaps someone here can help me pin down the date. It is about 31" tall and the can is about 4.5" wide and 8" tall. Thanks!
