Was looking at some old NYC timetables and noticed #’s 27 and 28 sometimes listed no station stopin Albany, wondering if the train ever ran through Selkirk directly to the Castleton bridge to save time on the Boston run.

I'm guessing 27 and 28 would have used the Post Road branch between the B&A and Rensselaer and then the Livington Ave bridge to connect with the Albany main to avoid Albany Union Station?

jpb is correct. The "States" and several other trains bypassed Albany Stn., changed crews at Rensselaer, and ran via LAB. They were not scheduled to pick up or drop cars at Albany. This also applied in instances where multiple sections of a train operated; no work at Albany, then run via LAB.
