Yes. There was a LV industrial spur which started with a wye just southwest of N Broad and Central. According to my ancient hagstrom's, it paralled Long Avenue (south of 22), and served Bristol-Myers (Ipana toothpaste with the beaver). It turned northwest and crossed under 22, with spurs to Liberty Avenue and Hillside Avenue, and provided the access to the industries on the south side of I-78 by Burnett and Ramsey Streets.

From there, Hagstrom's says it crosses under I-78 (I believe it crosses over 78) and crosses Winans, Chancellor and Lyons Avenues in Irvington before ending at the team track at Nye Avenue, in Newark. I believe this branch still has customers.

This is separate from the former Rahway Valley branch which served Maplewood, and the former LV industrial branch which served 18th Avenue in Newark

That line is still there. NJ 22 crosses over it on an overpass. I'm talking about one just before that, near the Ford dealership.

This website says: Lionel trains were manufactured in a factory at 605 21st street in Irvington NJ, AND in another factory and office at 28 Sager Place in Hillside NJ. (For the NJ geography challenged, these towns are adjacent)
Semi-off-topic: don't forget that Atlas Model Railroad Company is still at 378 Florence Avenue in Hillside.

On the north side of 22, east of Bloy street. The map shows a spur breaking off the siding and turning south toward US22 and dead ending against the highway's north side, just east of Bloy street. Directly opposite, on the south side of 22, is a short street named New York Place, which is out of alignment with the adjacent streets. If you mapquest it, you can see the line-up.

There's an oddly placed Lehigh Street on the far side of Bloy street, south of 22 and just west of NY Place.

Nope, not that one, either! That's too far West. This is literally just before the Ford Dealer as you head West.

I'll have to drive down and look. And, I'll bring the Hagstrom's. :-D :-D

back on topic, I noticed that LV had about five scheduled trains from NY Penn to points west in 1955. Destinations included Wilkes Barre, Ithaca, Lehighton, and Buffalo.

The commuter doodlebug was off the schedule by 1955, with bus service meeting the eastbound and westbound trains at Flemington Jct. I didn't think to record the times, but it looked like a long commute.

Neither Hillside nor Meeker Avenue were on the schedule by 1955. By 1962, the LV was "freight service only"

Thanks for that info!!! I guess we'll have to go back to the 1940's for those station stops to show up.......

The LV had commuter service on the Irvington Branch in the 1920's, IIRC......It was a very token and extremely short lived service, the LV was forced into it by local civic groups and the NJ PUC.......They (the LV) did everything to discourage it, and it apparently worked, it didn't last the year.......As for other "commuter" doodlebug services on the main line from Flemington, the last run was in 1947 or 48, as a Jersey City Terminal to South Plainfield run, probably again not very convenient, as it went from nowhere to the yard in JC, and commuters had to walk across Johnston AVe to the CNJ ferry boats.

Will post more details when I get home tonight.

The Maple Leaf, train # 8 (originally #2) was discontinued on February 3rd, 1961.

The dates on Irvington Branch service as previously discussed in this thread were January 29th, 1951 to June 22nd, 1915.
