NJT 4101 on train 1159 at Waldwick, NJ 12/15/2022. The 4101 has been restored to its NJTDOT "Bluebird" paint scheme it wore in the late 1970's to early 1980's.

They were wet. It had been raining and there was some slushy snow falling most of the day.

I managed to get a second and better shot of NJT 4101 on train 1159 12/22/2022, which has just entered revenue service in its NJDOT paint scheme that it was painted in 1979 until sometime after 1983 when it was painted into the NJTransit standard "disco stripe" paint scheme it wore until this year. NJT 4101 was delivered as CNJ 3672 in B&O blue as the CNJ GP40P's were financed by the B&O with the intent to take them back for freight service should the CNJ cease to run commuter trains. That never happened and NJDOT bought out the GP40P's After Conrail, The CNJ GP40P's were renumbered to 4100-4112 series in the Conrail fleet as they were being operated by Conrail. Many of the GP40P's got different 4100-4112 numbers when they were rebuilt to GP40PH-2's by Conrail. NJT 4101 retained its same number after the rebuild. NJTransit and hsitorical societies did their very best to return the 4101 back to its "bluebird" scheme including take paint chip samples to ensure the blue was the correct shade and they even placed a Leslie 3 chime horn which was the original type off horn placed on this engine. Fortunately they tack welded the horn in place to prevent horn theft. NJT did a spectacular job on this heritage unit. Its become my favorite engine in the NJTransit fleet.

Nope. It works. You can definitely tell when the 4101 or the 4109 are leading a train.

I finally bagged it!! NJT 4609, the Ride With Pride Locomotive is on train 7220 at Linden, NJ and then in Red Bank, NJ 3/5/2023. An interesting note: A very large "billboard" on the side of the 4609 shows that funding for the wrap was made by Hackensack Meridian. One would wonder why NJT chose the 4609 since it could never get to Hackensack under its own power since the Pascack line is not electrified. An ambulance or MICU owned by Hackensack Meridian passed by and the lettering on it stated that it was operating out of Riverview Hospital in Red Bank and they also have Oceanview University Medical Center in Brick. Thats why they chose the 4609 and why its been pretty much confined to the North Jersey Coast line. (I take offense as I am North Jersey born and bred. Born in what was then Hackensack Hospital. It did not become Hackensack UniversityMedical Center until much later. ) The NJCL is SOUTH of the Driscoll Bridge putting it in SOUTH Jersey. I wonder if the person who designed this was on a bad acid trip? All I know is some poor slob having a good acid trip will have a bad one after seeing this locomotive!! :-D
